Independent Writing Project + Extra Credit Assignment

Independent Writing Project on Coming of Age-

#16: Some aspects of coming of age are pain, loss, disappointment, and disillusionment. Write about 1 experience that you had that relates to one of these aspects. (Short scene)

In the late year of 2011, my fifth grade year in Public School 321. I was so caught up in my “senior” activities not realizing the things I left behind, which in this case was my great grandma.
It was a Friday afternoon when my twin sister and me had just came from school. We were so excited because we felt mature that we walked home by ourselves. Ahh memories, anyways we walked in the house so excited for no particular reason. And my mom and dad were crying, so my sister and I gave each other that awkward look like what the heck is going on. My parents both tell us that there was a death in the family and I try not to say my great grandma but something in my mind tells me that she was the one. Until it hits me, they both say it at the same time “Your great grandmother has passed away.” I feel like crap inside thinking why couldn’t I have called her, why couldn’t I have suggested flying out to Ohio to go and see her. I really don’t like the feeling of knowing I cant see my Grandma again and I haven’t even seen her in a year or two.  The sad part about this is she doesn’t remember who any of us are because she has the disease named Alsimers, where she cant remember anything that happened in the past.
Her funeral took place in Ohio, so I basically ended up missing all my senior activities, when I could have called her before.
I blamed this all on me at one point but I thought in said, this is a part of life, it eventually happens to every right?
One the trip to Ohio, I just thought about how I could have seen her just  one more time, One more time!  On the plan ride I barely talked to any of my family members, I just sat there and thought about the same thing over and over again.
When we got off the plane, there was a bus to drive us to the Hotel.
Everyone was having a good time, but I can see it in their eyes that they each misses my great grandma.
I started to cry but I put my head down so no ne can see me, I really didn’t want the attention.
When we drove up to the hotel, the guy took our luggage out and drove off, As we checked in I looked around the hotel, and it was pretty nice I said to myself.
When we walked into the hotel me and my sister shared the room with the two full beds. I lie down and start crying again, but I didn’t know why this time. I guess I miss my grandma a lot more then I had thought. But in my heart I’d always remember that she’d always be by my side.

But that changed…
I am a basketball player

I am someone you can rely on
I am someone that will always have your back
I am someone that you can trust
I am a loving person
I am someone who loves to watch NBA basketball
I am someone who loves food. #Foodislike
I want to be someone anyone can go to if they need me
I want to be someone people will be nice too
I want to be someone people
I want to be a better basketball player
I want to be someone that is 5’6 I have no clue why
I want to be someone that speaks from the heart
I want to be famous!
I want to ne someone every talks about (In a good way)

other

This book really taught me a lot about coming of age experience, teaching me about tough childhoods, appearance, being apart of the lower class and a little bit of relationship. The text doesn’t really relate to my life, but it does to other text. I feel like the text/book PUSH by Sapphire can relate to this story because they both have similar contexts.

The positives to my book club-
“The Glass Castle” was a really good pick of a book, because I could really understand it, and I knew majority of the vocabulary that the author used in the book, I also enjoy reading memoirs about this topic. Some negatives about the book club were that I read really slowly so therefore I had to rush to finish the book on time.

Interview: For (Coming of age)

Interview:

Q1: What is your proudest moment as a child?

A1: - Graduating from junior high school…

Follow Up: Why?

A1: Because I finally got to move on to high school.

Q2: What do you want to be when you grow up?

A1: I want to be a creative writer

Follow Up:  What is that?

A2: When you write stories, TV shows movies etc.

Q3: Who inspired you as a child/young adult?

A3: My friends, family and teachers because they taught me to be myself, and try new things.

Q5: Are you an only child?

A5: No (Laughs) I have two brothers (Laughs) No, I have two sisters and 1 brother.

Q6: Where you ever in a relationship as a young adult?

A6: Yeah, It comes with many flaws.

-       Like what?
A6: Yeah, like every relationship has their flaws, like definitely in high school. Everyone wants to be in each other’s business especially if you are known in the school, then everyone will always be in your business. Asking are you going out? Who are you dating? Why are you dating him? Etc. And it gets really annoying. I mean like its high school people do that.

Q7: How did love/your relationships affect your schoolwork?

A7: Well, it depends if you’re totally into them, like really, really into them. You lose focus of everything like your friends, school, like everything. And like you don’t sit with them anymore and you start basically, almost forget about them. And when you’re really into him, you forget about school. Like school what’s that? Like you don’t care about anything. But when its over your like awh dang… Let me go back to my friends. Telling them please forgive me and I’m sorry. And you have to catch up with mad schoolwork, and mad extra curriculum, and it like sucks. So don’t date in high school!!

Final Romeo and Juliet Essay

Have you ever seen changes in relationships in between a decade and present time? In the book Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, during different time period’s relationships/dating practices change and leave the old dating stuff behind and use the present time ways to date.

The common dating practicing of each time period will change because over many years people will have adapted different ways to date. In this common book Romeo Montegue and Juliet Capulet, Juliet’s father chose’s a spouse for his daughter to marry (arranged marriage). But instead she sneaks around with a Romeo, who meet at a masquerade party where they both are fall fondly in love. In act 1 scene 5, at Capulet’s party where they both are attending, they happily meet but to find out that they belong to enemy houses. “If I profane, my unworthiest hand this holy shrine, this gentle sin is this, my lips two blushing pilgrims, ready stand to smooth this rough touch with a tender kiss.” I feel like this quote means Romeo is quickly falling in love with Juliet and is talking into giving her a kiss. This also shows how fast they fell in love bin a matter of hours.

While the two (Romeo and Juliet) are in love although they aren’t supposed to be together, Romeo still tries and makes his way to her wondrous palace. Here Romeo is risking his life because of their love. Nothing can get in their way of loving each other. “So thou wilt woo, but else not for the world, in truth fair Montague, I am to fond. This quote is showing how much they love each other. When
Juliet says the word “I am too fond” that means she is too much in love. It is obvious that the two need to be together.

Romeo and Juliet; knowing that they are not suppose to be with each other, when it kills them dearly not to. When Romeo funds about Juliet’s “death” he looses it and buys potion from his fellow friend Friar Lawrence so he would kill himself to be with her, “Eyes look at you last! Arms, take your last embrace! lips, O you, the doors of breath, seal with a righteous kiss.  A dateless bargain to engrossing death!” this quote shows that Romeo would do anything to be with his Juliet. Not knowing that she went unconscious on purpose just to be with him.

The text doesn’t really relate to me in anyway because I have never been in love before. I can understand why people love one another, I think that the reader should know the relationship Romeo and Juliet had, and how they made risks to see one another. Romeo and Juliet is a very interesting and romantic love story with practices that no longer happen these days

In this common book Romeo and Juliet, Juliet’s dad chose’s a spouse for her to marry (arranged marriage). But instead she sneaks around with a new guy named Romeo because they both are fondly in love. In act 1 scene 5, at Capulet’s party where they both are attending, they happily meet and fall deeply in love but to find out that they belong to enemy houses. Reading response on “A Child Called It.”

Reading response on “A Child Called It.”
Reading this book made me think about how bas child abuse really is. In this book the child in this named David at the age of four years old, never did anything wrong at this age, but to his mother everything he did was a problem. David could not eat unless the mother said he could (and the food was left over scraps from the garbage,) had to clean the house, was forced to sniff ammonia and drink bleach. All these abusive actions can really cause harm to this poor kid. This is the mothers little secret no one finds out.
Overall in this book it was very emotional for me while reading it because it was really sad to read what he had to go through and showed how bad this really was for David. The sad part about this, is that it is based on a true story. So this David boy went though sop much as a child and had to keep it a secret.

Reading Response: NonFiction Article due 3/20

This article was mainly about underlying human behaviors. People’s social and emotional behaviors are very unknown these days. Scientist in UCLA have measured the release of specific peptide a neurotransmitter called hypocretin, greatly increases when you’re happy and decreases when you’re sad. The past studies have shown that boosting hypocretin can increase mood and alertness in us humans.

I feel like this article had a lot to do with some of the stuff that I have learned in past science classes. For example mood swings and emotional problems and/or behavior. Also this article was really easy to understand and it was very well written. I was sure of the purpose of this article and I fully understood what the authors point was to get across.
