Social Awareness Project. #2,4 and 5

Social Awareness Project-

2. Observe your surroundings (school, home, neighborhood, media). -

What I’m observing-                                           A red apartment building                        

·       1 car double-parked

·       A tree

·       A Laundromat

·       An airplane

·       2 street light

·       An motorcycle

·       A blue car passing by

Unfair things-

·       Bullying children outside Acorn High school

·       Homeless people

·       Over flowed garbage

           Response: Bullying is not to be tolerated anywhere, not at anytime or place. People should really stick up for the person that is to be bullied at the time; it’s best for the person being bullied and for your own goods as well. People today are committing suicide, under pressure; some kids can’t even go to school without being afraid of what’s going to happen to them because they are bullied. I feel really bad for the people that are bullied and I wish there was something that I could do to stop bullying in this country.

        

       Children shouldn’t bully any children; it does not mean pick on someone your own size or pick on a kid just because you want to show off. Usually the case with bullies is they are jealous because of something a child has or they bully a child to cover up their weak spot, because they most likely don’t want to get teased themselves. Witnesses should really tell an adult or someone yon can trust to speak to the principle or someone that can talk/stop the bully! IF YOU SEE SOMETHING SAY SOMETHING!!

        

          I think bullying is getting way to far these days. Children really shouldn’t be dying at such a young age; not even dying period. Bullying needs to come to an end as soon as possible, because it’s turning into a bigger issue then expected. Children nowadays have really changed from the past because 3 years or so there was not this much bullying. Someone needs to put a stop to this behavior. Now there is not just bullying face-to-face there is cyber bullying, threatening and excluding. It really does not matter what age you are for happens to you, it can happen to anyone of any age. I also feel that people are letting this one slide; no! This one is not a problem that we can refer back to later. And we forget about it and by then it’s to late. So it’s about time that we address this problem so everyone can step in and make a change!

4. Write a reading response on a social issue in a literary work (your independent reading book, short story, essay, or poem/song). –

            In this book “Cirque Du Freak” by Darren Shan was a freaky read. Cirque Du Freak was about a rare circus that was in town and Darren’s best friend happened to get them tickets. They cannot tell their parents about this freak show, so they end up sneaking out of the house. When they arrive to the dark, dusty tent with no one in there; they are total freaked out, they have no clue what to do, but Steven wants to stay so they end up both agreeing to stay. Meanwhile other people start to come in and they take their seats in the 5^th row. As the seats fill up an announcement comes on letting the audience know that the show will be starting and to take your seats so we can begin.

             During the show, weird, disgusting and abnormal acts come on, like Octa-woman, Mr.Crepsley and Rhamus Two bellies preform everyone is shocked and are at the edge of their seats eager to know what coming up next. Next is the finally…the wolf man! In the beginning they clearly state that when this act comes on to be completely quiet or else the wolf man will lose its temper and hurt someone. So a lady in the seats screams and carries on while he is preforming and the wolf man starts to howl and leaps off the stage onto her face and these people in blue robes come and rescue her she is still screaming while they take her. People on stage say  “ The show must go on they say!” showing no care what so ever.

         When the show ends Darren tells Steve to wait outside because he has to use the “bathroom” but he actually does not go. Instead Steve goes to one of the pre formers. Steve sneaks back inside to see what is going on and to see why it is taking his Darren so long to come out. He creeps onto the balcony trying not to make it creek and he gets to the perfect spot where he can hear it clearly. All he hears is mumbling and Mr. Crepsley and him get really close and all you hear is a munch! Steve is so surprised he runs out when he see’s his best friend talking to a random stranger. When Steve comes out, Steve is nowhere to be found. The next day they don’t speak or anything because Steve was still surprised of what happen last night.

        Overall what happens in the book is Darren becomes a half-vampire and he pretends dead in front of his family so that he can run off to his new family “Cirque Du Freak.” I felt like Darren was making a big mistake because he made his family suffer in pain, when he’s actually alive and everyone thinks he’s dead.  The issue in this story is Darren is alive and half vampire and his best friend Steve knows he’s out there. I think the message of the story is don’t do something that you are going to regret in the future. The text makes me feel very confused because why would he put his parents in all that stress just because he want to be a Vampire Prince. It’s very selfish to do something like that to your own family.

 

5. Write an original literary piece (poem, song, short dramatic scene, personal narrative, etc.) responding to a specific social problem/issue. –

Poem:

SPEAK UP!

Pushed Down To The Floor

I Cry

They Laugh

I run

They Catch Me

Tease me about what I wear,

And I say You Know What?

Enough Is Enough!

I’m sick And Tired

Of You Bullying Me!

They all Looked Confused.

And I laugh

And They Run.

The process of this poem really came from the heart, I have never actually been bullied before and I will never be a by stander again. I have witnesses bullying before and I never said anything, because I was afraid people would call me names so I watched. When I saw it again I had gone to the principle immediately to report the problem and that child never was bullied again!

The problem in my poem is that these three kids pick on a child for years now and he dosn’t tell anyone because they threaten him. So one day he has the guts to stand up to one of them but they are the ones running away this time. This poem is not based off of a true story but bullying is a big problem in the U.S. I wrote this poem SPEAK UP!  Because sometimes when you speak up, even if its your self still shows the bull that your not a weak kid, its shows them that you can speak up and not keep it all in because people threaten you.

Reading Response #2: Forged By Fire-

Reading Response #2: Forged By Fire-

I have just finished the 1^st series book “Forged by Fire” and this story really touching because of the things the main character Gerald went through. Gerald is a high school student that lives with his mother and current guardian grandmother. Gerald’s mother leaves him alone at times, yelled at him, cursed around him and exposed him to things a three old shouldn’t even be exposed to.

One day when Gerald’s mom is apparently out “to the doctors office” Gerald has no one to play with. He finds his toy soldier and a lighter on the floor; so he picks it up and decides to play a little game. Gerald realizes that when you push the tab on the lighter an orangey/blue-ish flame comes out and appears to be vey hot. He places the fire on his toy soldier to see what happens and the toy soldier starts burning into flames and Gerald gets scared so he throws the soldier on to the curtains and the fire starts to spreads. He runs behind the couch where there is less smoke and safer place to breath. Eventually he falls asleep and he wakes up in the hospital.

When he wakes up he is startled not knowing where he or what he had done. The doctors tell him that there was a fire in his house and a neighbor came to check up on him and saw the house in rapid flames. This wasn’t all Gerald’s fault of course, the mother should have been there with her child instead of buying drugs she should be taking care of her three year old son.

In conclusion the mother really should have been more responsible for her child. It was right for people to put her in rehab because what kind of parent leave their three year old child at home alone to starve. I also feel that the mother wasn’t taking her parent hood seriously, I you have a child- take initiative and treat your child with care.
